MINORS AA BALL
Ages 7-8: Typically 2nd Grade
LYB Little League offers a AA program for players that have a good grasp of most or all T-Ball and Coach Pitch skills and are ready to develop further.
Skills Covered
AA players learn the additional basics during their season:
- How to confidently face a player pitcher (not a coach) when hitting
- How to properly move out of the way of a pitch and how to time swings when hitting
- How to properly provide a target for a pitcher when catching and accurately and timely throw a ball back to a pitcher
- Know the basics of pitching, including balance and squaring the shoulders to the target
- How/when to run through first base and/or take a turn towards second base
- Have a fairly good grasp of where to throw for the easiest out when fielding
- How to run a relay on balls hit to the outfield
- Have a good grasp of how to move around the bag when playing first base
Practices are typically twice a week to start. Practice days and times are established by each coach. Once games begin, coaches often have one practice per week. Games are typically played twice per week. Teams play a midweek game and a Saturday game against either other Lincoln teams or other LL teams in nearby boundaries.
Equipment Needed
Each player should provide their own glove, batting helmet, and bat. Bats must follow the USABat standard - bats cannot be more than 33 inches in length and no more than 2 and 5/8 inches in diameter; wooden bats cannot be less than 15/16 inches in diameter (7/8 inches for bats less than 30 inches in length) at its smallest part. Wood bats taped or fitted with a sleeve may not exceed 16 inches from the small end. Please note that solid one-piece wood barrel bats do not require a USA Baseball logo.
